Why Decorate When You Can Donate?

Instead Of Decking The Halls, Edison Properties' Hippodrome Location Donates Money To Meals On Wheels

(New York, NY * December 8, 2010) – Last year, $13,000 worth of poinsettias adorned the lobby of the Hippodrome in Midtown Manhattan. This year, people will see a single, simple sign saying “Empty Walls. Full Tables.” That’s because the money normally reserved for holiday decorations has been donated to Meals on Wheels instead.

Edison Properties, the company that owns and operates the Hippodrome, made this decision in response to the ongoing economic downturn. "At some point we realized that it made no sense to spend thousands of dollars on flowers when there are New Yorkers going hungry over the holidays", said Stacy Stuart, VP of Marketing for Edison Properties.

The dollars donated this year will go directly to the Isaacs Neighborhood Senior Center at 415 E. 93rd Street. Established in 1966, their Meals on Wheels program has delivered more than 2.4 million healthy, nutritious meals to the homebound elderly on Manhattan’s East Side.
